Taking screenshots is not difficult, unless you need a large number of snapshots. If you want to create a step-by-step guide, you will spend a lot of time capturing the screen and saving the images. While using Auto Screen Capture, you can focus on your example and let the application take snapshots automatically. Its functionality is very simple and straightforward and it takes only a few clicks to get started.

Auto Screen Capture works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and you don't need to install it. You only need to download one executable and run it. The file is only 128 KB, which can be downloaded in a matter of seconds, even with slower connections.

Once you click a button, on Auto Screen Capture interface, it will start taking snapshots continuously, until it reaches a limit, which you can define. It is also possible to set up a capture and a slideshow delay. When the software reaches the specified limit, its interface will reappear on the screen. Alternatively, you can stop it yourself, by right clicking its system tray icon and selecting the Stop option.

Screenshots are saved automatically on the hard drive. They are listed on the left side of the interface, along with their formats and you can preview them in the larger area, on the right. A set of playback controls are located above the preview area and you can use them to play the images in a slideshow. By default, the snapshots are saved as PNG images, but you can opt for other formats. You may click an arrow, next to the Capture option, to reveal the available formats in a pop up menu. You can select different formats, like JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF and others.

All snapshots are displayed in the same list, in cronological order, even if you capture the screen more than once, using different formats. The good news is that Auto Screen Capture allows you to filter the images to show only a specific format. Each day, the application will store the screenshots in a new folder. You can also filter the images by their creation dates. A calendar is displayed above the files list and you can view the images created on a specific day by clicking the appropriate date.

Pros

Auto Screen Capture can take thousands of snapshots, using different formats. It displays them in chronological order and you can filter them by format or creation date and play them in a slideshow. The application uses very little disk space and you don't need to go through a setup process in order to use it.

Cons

Screenshots, with the same date and format, are not separated in the list. Fortunately, you can address this issue, by moving the actual files to a different location. With Auto Screen Capture, it takes a single click to start taking thousands of screenshots, as fast as you want, in various formats.
